Buying a used car is much easier today than it was a decade ago. New technologies have expanded the automotive market to the whole of Europe. The administrative formalities have been simplified thanks to the online download. But rushing may override reason and a poorly thought out purchase can quickly turn into disappointment. Here are 11 tips for a safer purchase of cheap cars at Cardaddy.

THE CHOICE OF MODEL

Choose a model that fits your needs and lifestyle. What budget? What type? Which motorization? These few questions already allow you to refine your choice. Also think about insurance and the cost of maintenance. A favorite purchase is not necessarily a good deal. Think about it!

PROFESSIONAL OR PARTICULAR?

Selling prices are generally lower among individuals. You benefit however from a better protection in case of purchase to a professional. The latter has an obligation of result and offers revised and guaranteed vehicles. If you opt for an individual, know that the procedures are complicated in case of dispute. It is your responsibility to provide proof of a defect or a hidden defect (at your expense), before starting any procedure.

COMPARE

Do you like a vehicle? Do not hesitate to check ads of similar vehicles. Check out the official odds, check for options you do not want to miss. Several models interest you? So remember to consult the notices of owners, this will give you a clue about possible recurring breakdowns.

CONTACT THE SELLER

Individual or professional, contact the seller. First check the truth of the announcement, then to ask various questions. Many fictitious ads are circulating on online sites and scams are not excluded.

TO ASK QUESTIONS

By phone or in front of the vehicle, ask all the questions that come to your mind. This will allow you to first “test” the seller. Some questions may embarrass him. Do not overlook:

  • the source ;
  • maintenance;
  • the accuracy of mileage;
  • the number of owners.

IN-DEPTH REVIEW

In the presence of the seller, examine the car “from every angle”. Inspect the exterior, the interior. Differences in hue can betray shock or even an accident. Make sure all parts are functioning, operate the safety elements, test the air conditioning if necessary. Remember that some items are very expensive to replace.

REQUEST A TEST

It is essential to test a used vehicle. Any salesman who refuses you will necessarily have things to hide. In this case do not insist and run away! The test must be performed on different types of roads. Analyze reactions when braking, cornering behavior. Do not forget to “listen” to the engine. Sluggishness and power loss are signs of failure.

EXAMINE THE TECHNICAL INSPECTION REPORT

It is the seller who is responsible for the technical control of his vehicle and not the buyer once the sale is concluded. Even if he is not required to repair any damage, you will have an overview of the real state of his vehicle. Also note that this document must be dated less than six months to be able to change the registration in your name.

ADMINISTRATIVE DOCUMENTS

Ask to see the gray card. Make sure it is on behalf of the seller. The latter is also required to provide you with a certificate of non-pledge (dated less than one month) attesting to the absence of opposition to the sale.

SECURE YOUR FUTURE VEHICLE

Your vehicle must be insured when you take possession of it. The insurance of the former owner stops at the moment when the registration is blocked.
